facilities management

Smith Brothers Group was founded by Chris and Kevin Smith with the formation of Smith Brothers Plumbing in 1985. In 2000, Tyco International purchased the business. The business remained a subsidiary of a Public Company for 10 years, during which time Chris Smith remained as General Manager. The Management team has been exposed to being part of a NYSE listed Group, a Private Equity Structure and ASX listed Group. During this time, strict governance policies were developed along with strong financial reporting standards. In 2010, the opportunity to return the business from Norfolk Group to private ownership presented and Chris Smith today is the sole Director/Secretary of the Company.

Our experience and expertise in Facilities Management was gained during our association with Tyco International. We joined with other divisions including Resolve FM, O’Donnell Griffin, Haden Air Conditioning, Wormald Fire and ADT Security to provide FM solutions. Our Management Team headed up the hard services offering to the FM market.

Being a part of a large organisation gave us insight into the provision of hard and soft services. We’ve used the knowledge gained to develop systems and procedures using a multi-skilled and efficient team, to provide superior service and depth across critical service offerings.

When the business returned to private ownership in 2010, our strategy was to incorporate all hard and soft service offerings in-house with directly employed trades. This structure allows us to offer savings to clients through streamlined management, economies of scale, reduction in sub-contractors and decrease in red tape and duplication.

We have hand-picked industry experts from each field and have the latest technology and equipment from around the world. Our company operates 24/7 with the Service divisions of electrical, plumbing and Pipeline Technology Services having up to 10 employees working every night shift servicing SA Water, UniSA, Adelaide Airport, Corporate Clients and the domestic market. We guarantee we will attend all out of hour’s calls immediately.

Future development strategy

Our future strategy is to continue to develop a holistic Facilities Management offering, and maintain an innovative approach to all aspects of business. We will invest in our people, providing a training delivery model covering all competencies of the services we provide to our clients.

We have a long history of innovation in the areas in which we operate and we will continue to seek and invest in the latest technology and equipment to ensure we lead the market.

Our aim is to be recognised as a company focused on customer excellence, working in partnership with our clients, adding value to their businesses through professionally delivered, competitively priced services.

Training & Development

We are committed to training and development, having trained and employed more than 285 apprentices over our 30 year history. We provide work experience and mentor students showing them opportunities available within the industry and how changing technologies are shaping the future. We have also had the privilege of providing supported employment to two gentlemen with intellectual disabilities from Minda who have been in our company for over 20 years.

General capabilities

Smith Brothers Group has more than 30 years’ experience in delivering services. There are very few companies who have the resources and experience we offer over the complete range of services required to provide Facilities Management.

Our biggest point of difference and advantage is that we are trade based and directly employ multiple trades. Unlike our competitors who are generally not industry based and use trade subcontractors.

  • Greater ability to integrate building services to provide up-to-the-minute technical solutions
  • Reduce time & risk because of multi skilled workforce and in-house teams in lieu of multiple subcontractors
  • Elimination of conflict of trades availability & co-ordination
  • Efficiencies achieved by one company managing multi services & trades
  • Flexibility to incorporate changes with minimal cost and time delay due to single point responsibility

This provides significant advantages for Facility Management in reducing time & risk.

We provide a true 24/7 multi-service approach to the delivery of services. Proudly Australian owned and operated, we were the first to introduce 24 hour operations (1985), same day service (1988), service within the hour (1990) and daytime rates to 9pm (2013) for trade services.

Smith Brothers Group specialises in assessment and rectification of critical assets. We provide 24/7 response to critical incidents for corporate clients including UniSA, Adelaide Airport and SAWater/Allwater covering electrical, plumbing and pipeline critical assets utilising our plant and equipment for immediate mobilisation to return assets to service.

We operate in high security environments including Adelaide Airport, RAAF, DSTO, and ASC requiring strict adherence to site specific protocols and procedures, and our employment conditions include drug and alcohol testing and National Police Clearance.

Our dedicated Help Desk is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week every week of the year personally answering your call any time day or night. They have extensive service industry experience and specific knowledge to assist in the first instance and dispatch the appropriate technician immediately. With full knowledge and access to the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) our finger is always on the pulse.
